Coffee tour in Jardín, Antioquia: what it includes and how to choose

The mountains around town are coffee as far as you can see. A coffee tour in Jardín means spending a morning with a family that plants, picks, processes and roasts, and ending with a cup you now know how to read.

What happens on a tour

We use Café Historias, in the Serranías area, as the reference because it publishes its full route on the Jardín tourism portal and on Posadas Rurales. It lasts about three hours and follows coffee in the order it is made:

  1. Planting and plant care.
  2. Picking ripe cherries.
  3. Pulping and fermentation.
  4. The three processes: washed, honey and natural.
  5. Drying.
  6. Roasting and grinding.
  7. Cupping with a snack.

Transport to the farm is not included. Booking is by phone (312 518 5076, per the portal) and the price reference we found is COP 80,000 per person.

In town, without a tour

If you do not have half a day, coffee is also served on the square facing the basilica, or in the specialty coffee shops downtown. For something sweet on the side, see Jardín sweets.

Harvest months vary by farm and altitude. Ask when booking whether you will see picking; if not, the tour still shows the whole process.

Sleeping among the coffee

Several Jardín stays are surrounded by coffee. You will find them in cabins and farm stays and glamping. For a farm with a lake, see the Hotel Lago La Valdivia review. More ideas for the day in things to do in Jardín.
